About to log into a Windows 8 tumblr app on my new laptop.
If I start spamming ads for porn blogs and cheesecake shops you’ll know why.

#PerDiem Day 130 - Summative
Remember those blue-tac weather charts you made in year one?
Remember that time Grace said she saw Miss Tafe kissing Mr Nelson and you told her not to gossip but now you think about it that probably really happened?
Remember that substitute teacher who wore really tight pants and you couldn’t stop staring?
Remember how Mrs Cameron called you lazy? Or was it slow?
Hey, you know how you...

#PerDiem Day 129 - There are no desert islands
They’d called it Cape Tribulation. But his first thought after waking was how soft the sand felt against his face.
Small fish danced around his sword in the shallows. For a moment he enjoyed the thought of leaving it behind, but there were better uses for it now.
His trials, he felt, had only just begun. His troubles, however, were over

#PerDiem Day 128 - To have and to Half-Nelson
The problem with vowing that you’d gladly die for one another is that no one’s ever in the mood to honour and obey when you really want to cash that cheque.
Choose your weapon. I love you too.

#PerDiem Day 126 - To whom it may concern.
At the bottom of each entry they put their postcode, age and gender.
This person has not ticked either sex but drawn an arrow from M to F.
I enter “Female” into the system.
I say “Good luck Ms, Miss, Mrs, Reverend, Doctor, Dame or Madam.”
And then I pick up the next form.

It’s like the Harlem Shake only it’s a high speed train in Queensland.
Midway through 127, day 126 is on its way.
Good thing you guys are all Doctor Who fans, right?

#PerDiem Day 124 - Dynasty
As the rain settled in the last man-at-arms looked long at him, then sighed and went home to her family.
He watched her go.
It had never been a castle, really. But there had - until now - been a throne.
He dragged the chair into the corner, stood carefully on it and saw about a leak.
I know. Two stories. They’re in the mail. On their way. In the works. Over yonder. Up and coming. Down with your bad self.
Is Hecticity a word?

They looked so cute in their little Viking helmets, chew-toy battle axes in their mouths; he couldn’t bring himself to fix the sign.

#PerDiem Day 122 - Gasp!
I tell her I hate to breathe too deeply on a crowded bus or in an elevator. The way I look, I know everyone’ll think I’m smelling them or breathing down their necks. I breathe shallow in public. I hold my breath sometimes.
She tells me that won’t do at all.
When they pry the doors open that night I’m breathing steadier than I ever have before. On the subway home...

#PerDiem Day 121 - A town called Comet
It was a cold and quiet place. From a long way off it didn’t ever seem to change but gravity and size and time brought it closer to the world, where everything was speed and heat and sound.
There was a town called Comet and it set fire to the world.

Each member of the team was allocated a cryo locker before their departure, to be filled with any item of their choosing and opened either by thumbprint upon their return or at a date and time which they had specified.

In the rock garden, at the foot of the wattle tree (you must be small enough to stand beneath the branches) they hold court.
There is a new king and a new queen every Sunday, but the captain and the jester never change.
Banquets attended, battles fought, whole worlds are built to play hide and seek in. The tale is ongoing.

My cup runneth over. It spilleth o’er my jeans and maketh me to look as one who hath his garments soil’d.

#PerDiem Day 115 - Artemis (I'd do it all again)
She whispered a prayer to the sun, that she might be forgiven for the work she did in darkness. For the sun sees only half of everything, and could never understand.
Then she shook away childish thoughts, took aim, let fly and fled.
At first light the sun did not recognise the world.

This is Hephaestus, blacksmith for the gods. He mostly just makes cosplay weapons now though. Their interests changed pretty drastically after the SNES came out, which is fine: He writes his fan-fic with the extra time now he doesn’t sharpen the swords.
He goes mainly by “Vulcan” now. You can probably guess why.
Hey when you reblog this, who do you reckon the gods would cosplay as?

#PerDiem Day 113 - Ongoing
Woke on a hill by the train yards at sunrise. Freight was passing through. Watched it for a while, like a national conveyor belt, or a carousel. Felt like there was no beginning or end to that train. Found a pair of shoes at the bottom of the hill. Could see the ocean from the top. Remembered yesterday. Sat back down. Waited for the long train to pass.

#PerDiem Day 112 - Hurl
Tommy looked back at Sarah, first with pride, then with confusion. She’d gone pale all of a sudden, staring at him, like he’d done something wrong.
Sarah did not run: Tommy was the only one who knew the way back from the quarry. But they walked home in silence, as Tommy wondered why she hadn’t...

Man, I’d been chased out of a dozen villages before I figured it out.
But you put a nice dress on, put a few stones in a circle and really sell it? They’ll be lining up all the way down the midden to let you kill their virgin maids.
Some days they’ll even thank you.

#PerDiem Day 108 - Micro Sleeps
I fell asleep at my desk today, for about a third of a second.
I found myself thrown face first onto the stage of the Bell Tower studio, as it lurched like the deck of a sinking ship and turned over on itself.
Great blocks of chalk-white stone and twisted metalwork fell past. I scrambled to keep hold.
Dave from Legal saw me choke the shout. He looked at me strangely all day, but his band still...

So we’ve learnt two things tonight.
One: it’s now become vitally important to specify sexuality when booking your bachelor party.
Two: every pop song ever written sounds way better when it’s sung by an enormous Scotsman.
Also the lyrics to “Wannabe.” So, three things.

#PerDiem Day 106 - Can we be friends in real life?
It’s the third time I lie about my my weekend that I realise the truth about the break room.
We thought it would be fine to put a kitchen next to the photocopier.
This place is a share house now. We put our names on our food and we try not to leave a mess. We make small talk and stare at our coffee, praying that one day we’ll either have a little bit of privacy or finally try to get...

#PerDiem Day 103 - Industrial Action
She leant against the catwalk railing and thought about throwing herself into the machines.
A line of workers fed in and out of the foreman’s office. One by one their faces fell the same. And a different thought occurred to her then, about things that could be thrown. This place made monkey wrenches after all.

Lacking any credible eye-witnesses, forensics indicate that the suspect, Romeo Montague, after illegally entering the state and vandalising a grave site, allegedly stabbed to death a young mourner, whose identity will be released once the family has been contacted. It is believed Mr Montague then proceeded to mutilate the body of his first victim’s late cousin before killing himself.

#PerDiem Day 101 - All day, and all of the night.
You told me you loved me on a Thursday night. I’d been waiting til we were on a mountain or at a fancy dinner party to say it first.
But you don’t buy people puppies for Christmas. We didn’t try for a child on our wedding night. I asked you to marry me when you were in the bath.
Love is not for special occasions.

#PerDiem Day 100 - Heart of the Machine
That is when your ship’s mechanic becomes your Engineer.
When his eyes gleam like brass and his blackened hands could drive a nail in, gently.
When he is often lost entirely to the world below, or even to the sky through which he sails, for there is no universe that could please or pain him greater than his slick and strange machine.
When each gear is a phrase is a face is a thought is a...

#PerDiem Day 97 - There's One In Every Family
My brother could tickle people with his mind but it gave everybody nosebleeds. Everybody in the house, including him. It must have been strange for my mother, coming home to the two of us laughing and wiping our faces.
And you can imagine when we actually fought.
